Winter Holiday At Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook
July 04, 2012I feel like there is a need to getaway from Dunedin especially during my Semester break. FML, while everyone gets 3 weeks of semester holiday, I only gets two. Basically, I spent most of my time baking and dancing as to prepare for the upcoming Malaysian Day and Malaysian Night events.
Luckily, Devind and Tong Seng agreed to take me on a trip just like last year's winter holiday to Queenstown.
The first thing I asked Devind was "Is that place gonna be colder than Dunedin?" because obviously it's winter and why would I want to go to the place that is gonna be colder than Dunedin? But Devind said "yes, it's gonna be colder than Dunedin". Dang, so I packed awful lots of clothes and foods to be prepared to fight with the cold.
Passed by some rocks with Maori words on it
I really liked the sunny weather. Perfect escape from Dunedin!
I can't read Maori words really.
Had no idea what it was about but it's interesting because they made this a tourist spot.
Can barely open my eyes
One of the Vanished World Centre, where only some parts were left
showing you the other side..it's actually a long line of Maori words down the rock
SELCA~~
Liki and Siew Lee - noticed that we wore same colour tops? Coincidence =)
The car where the boys were in. Seems like they are not interested with the rocks
Happily on the journey
Boyfriend watching anime throughout the journey
It feels like outside is so dry
But just at one point where we passed that area, suddenly the whole environment changes and the road got frosty and car window became really blur. We stopped by a mini town for toilet break and oh man, it was freezingly cold!!
I think this town was called Twizel town.
Boyfriend said it's famous because they filmed Lord Of The Rings there so he forced me to take this picture with the Twizel word behind.
We're guessing if he's Asian or European LOLz. Random talk.
Show you the outside view from the car.
Told you it's a big and sudden change from the first few pictures.
Even more obvious when green grass are covered in white snow. Looks pretty though.
We reached Lake Tekapo around 2ish and checked into the Lake Tekapo budget resort. It wasn't bad at all! It was so much better than the backpackers we stayed at Queenstown last year! After putting our bags, we're off wandering outside the resort.
Saw people crowding the frozen lake and we went to walk on it as well
Damn scared if we fell into the ice water
Tong Seng had his shoes and pants wet when he stepped on the thin ice on the lake and almost fell into it.
Just a wee picture of half of our room.
After eating noodles for lunch =X, we headed to start our activites!! It's just near our resort place.
Really liked this group picture of us with sunset behind
Being typical Asians taking picture EVERYWHERE
I really hate walking on icy roads. Need to start buying snow boots
Acting cute
Went up to snow tubing! We wanted to do spa and stuff but it was too expensive so we bought snow tubing + soaking.
up up here I go!
It was so fun! I enjoyed it so much better than Luge ride I went in Queenstown. I guess the weather in Queenstown was bad on that day too.
I really enjoyed it...but after few rounds I got bored lol.
My blur boyfriend
Tong Seng, Davence, Brynn, Liki, Siew Lee and Devind
After snow tubing, we went soaking!! It was the best thing during the whole trip. Soaking from 20°C to 30°C and lastly 40°C (where only Adult can enter) was so comfortable. I was so relaxed and calmed.
Fortunately I brought my own swimming suit from Malaysia so I don't need to rent here. By the way, the top picture is the one and only photos that we had. It was just too cold to get out from the hot pool.
I think we soak about 2-3 hours? Davence got hungry and it was dinner time so we left. Was sitting here while waiting for the guys.
Caution! Wet floor.
My body was like on steam after soaking. It was so warm!
Wrap ourselves warmly after hot pools. Snuggly!!
Group picture outside the pool
Hello snowman!
White and fluffy
Real fire. No you don't see this in Malaysia because...do you really need the reasoning? LOL.
Had Pad Thai for dinner!
We went back to resort and rest early. It was such a relaxing holiday trip. It was just what I needed after a stressful semester with heavy workloads. Though not everyone get to sleep early because we're just not used to sleeping early, at least we rested well on the bed till the next early morning. We set alarm at 7am because we wanted to see sunrise!
Too bad the clouds were thick on sky, hiding the sun.
I really like the view from our resort. It's like a fake background.
By the way, the lake behind me is Lake Tekapo. Just in case you're wondering.
It was a cold morning, and it's even colder when you're near the lake.
Can't missed out on a group picture!
Thanks Tong Seng for this solo picture of me =)
Devind said we must take picture with the small chapel in Lake Tekapo. "If you didn't take picture with the small chapel, it's like you haven't come to Lake Tekapo".
Inside the mini chapel
=)
Outside the chapel
Apparently this is the first and only chapel in Lake Tekapo till now.
Brynn and Liki
This is a statue of the dog who helped to discover this place
Cutie!! I meant the dog.
And of course, group picture of us again.
We thought we should make a group jump shots and started jumping in mid air, with people passing by looking at us
Yaaahooooo
Many people get married in this church. I know it's just an awesome view to see in this church.
They should make movie in this place.
After visiting the small chapel, we headed to Mt Cook! Siew Lee thought we were hiking the mountain initially and I'm like "you serious?" lol. Hiking a snow mountain needs special gear and training man. I am not qualified for it. Haha.
Landing my feet on the thick snow
The weather treated us so well that I can just wear 2 layers on that day in Mt Cook! Even pictures turned out really nice because of the sunlight!
Kinda feels like Switzerland here
There's nothing much to do here but to stay for holiday and scenary so we're just stopping by here to enjoy the breathtaking sceneries.
Woohooo! Can't stop taking pictures!
Acting cool! Wearing my Furla sunglasses =D
I was like "NOOOO! I need to find my FB profile picture here!!" hahahaha just jk =P
Smiles =D
It doesn't feel cold at all! Feels warmer than Dunedin though there's snow on the ground. I guess the sunlight was really strong that day.
Bought my pink beanie and scarf for $25.00 the day before the trip. It was on sale and in one set
Behind the scene where Devind, Davence and Brynn were throwing snowballs while Tong Seng setting up camera being a professional photographer
Jump shot is a definate must in such a nice scenary place.
And a more normal picture XD
I would probably come back here for holiday. If you need a relaxing holiday, I'd recommend you here.
Must not missed out picture with boyfie.
Oh btw, I got this wool jacket from Uniqlo. It's super nice and warm.
I don't care even if I can't open my eyes big because the sceneries is just too nice I had to capture everything.
I could just camp here right now.
Should bring my family here for visit if there's a chance.
It's me again!
I'm wearing skinny jeans from Uniqlo too.
Thank you boyfriend for coming to this trip with me!
One of best relaxing holiday I had in such long time.
Didn't want to leave this place but Davence was hungry again LOL so we had to leave.
See you again Mt Cook
I honestly think all mountains look the same. When I was blogging, I don't even know which mountain is which LOL
It's okay, just embrace the moment of joy.
As you can see, the road is getting dry, meaning we're further away from Mt Cook
The sun was too hot and it melt the snow on the mountain as well.
Awesome place!
Journey back to Dunedin
Brynn continue watching anime while Davence listening to music
Devind, being the GPS and monitoring us like our mother
Tong Seng, our photographer and driver of the day, taking care of us and keeping us safe like our father
sheeps and moooooo
Since we passed by Moeraki Boulders, Tong Seng drove in to see sunset. Well, we missed sunrise at Lake Tekapo...sunset at Moeraki Boulders will do =)
It was really an amazing and relaxing trip for me. I feel so relaxed and calmed now. I just need some rest after running on a treadmill to take in more oxygen and creating serenity. It helps me to think better and relax. I am ready now to face next challenges in my life! Go go go!
